This study deals with the effects of the immersion bath on the thermal equilibrium of the preterm newborn (PTNB).

OBJECTIVE
To analyze the effects of the immersion bath performed by the nursing team on the thermal control of the PTNB. Methods: Descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, performed with 07 newborns (RN). Sixteen immersion baths were evaluated. For data collection a check list was elaborated from the standard operating procedure (POP) of the unit, plus other variables from the specific literature. For the statistical treatment and descriptive analysis of the data obtained, the SPSS 201 program was used.

RESULTS
Regarding the hemodynamic behavior before and after bathing, the variables that suffered the most changes were: respiratory rate and body temperature drop.

CONCLUSIONS
The verification of body temperature before and after the immersion bath of PTNB in the Neonatal Unit is a strong predictor of morbidity, and it can also be considered an indicator of the quality of nursing care.
